ฐิตา:




ศิษย์ฉัน

ฉันจะสอนแต่ผู้ที่แสดงความกระตือรือร้น
ฉันจะชี้ทางสว่าง
แก่ผู้ที่เต็มไปด้วยพลังแห่งความตื่นตัว
อุปมาเช่นหากว่าฉันถือมุมหนึ่งของสี่เหลี่ยมไว้
แล้วเธอไม่กลับมาหาฉันพร้อมกับมุมที่เหลืออีกสามมุม
ฉันย่อมไม่ต่อวิชาแก่เธอ

Only one who bursts with
Enthusiasm do I instruct;
Only one who bubbles with
Excitement do I enlighten.
If I hold up one corner
And you do not come back to me with the other three,
I do not continue the lesson.

ธรรมชาติ

ก่อนที่สิ่งใดจะหดได้ มันจะต้องยืดได้เสียก่อน
อะไรก็ตามที่จะทำให้อ่อนแอลงได้
จะต้องเริ่มจากการมีความเข้มแข็ง
สิ่งที่จะล่มสลายได้ ก็ต่อเมื่อมีการจัดตั้งขึ้น
ผู้ที่จะเป็นผู้รับ ย่อมต้องเริ่มจากการเป็นผู้ให้
ซึ่งเรียกได้ว่าเป็นการใช้ความอ่อนสยบความแข็ง
และใช้ความอ่อนโยนสยบความแข็งกร้าว
"ย่อมเป็นการดีที่สุด
ที่จะปล่อยให้ปลาอยู่ในแหล่งของมัน
และปล่อยให้อาวุธอันแหลมคมที่สุด
แอบอยู่ที่ที่ไม่มีใครเห็น"
จงปล่อยให้ทุกอย่างเป็นไปตามธรรมชาติ

What is in the end to be shrunk,
must first be stretched.
Whatever is to be weakened,
must begin by being made strong.
What is to be overthrown,
must begin by being set up.
He who would be a taker,
must begin as a giver.
This is called the soft overcomes
the hard and the weak, the strong.
"It is best to leave the fish down in his pool;
best to leave the sharpest weapons
where none can see them."

ผู้บรรลุเต๋า

ผู้บรรลุเต๋าย่อมเป็นนายของตัวเอง
แม้จักรวาลก็ถูกหลอมละลายหายไปแด่ผู้บรรลุ
อุปมาเช่นว่า หากแม้นเขาต้องไปอยู่
ท่ามกลางความวุ่นวายและความสกปรก
เขาก็จะเป็นเสมือนดอกบัว
ที่เติบโตเบ่งบานในโคลนตม  แต่งดงามและ
ไม่แปดเปื้อนไปกับสภาพแวดล้อมที่สัมผัสถูก

Those who attain the Tao are masters of themselves.
The universe is dissolved for them.
Throw them in the company of the noisy and the dirty,
And they will be like a lotus flower
growing from muddy water.
Touched by it, yet unstained.

บัณฑิต

ผู้เป็นบัณฑิต ....มาถึงโดยไม่ต้องเดินทาง
....เห็นทุกสิ่งโดยไม่ต้องดู
....ไม่ต้องทำอะไรทั้งสิ้น แต่ก็สำเร็จทุกสิ่ง

The sage arrives without going,
Sees all without looking,
Does nothing, yet achieves everything.

เรียนรู้

ความลี้ลับแห่งศิลป์ที่แท้จริงคือ
การทำตัวเป็นผู้เริ่มเรียนรู้อยู่ตลอดเวลา
เพราะในใจของผู้เริ่มเรียนรู้
จะไม่มีความคิดที่ว่า "ฉันได้บรรลุบางอย่าง"
เมื่อนั้นเราจึงสามารถเรียนรู้บางสิ่งบางอย่างได้จริงๆ
ต่อเมื่อเรารักษาความคิดข้างต้นไว้ ธรรมะก็จักคงอยู่

This is the real secret of the arts:
always be a beginner.
Then we can really learn something.
In the Beginner's mind,
There is no thought, "I have attained something".
If you keep your original mind,
The precepts will keep themselves.
